A Princess Prince-less. Maria Sharapova works a new racquet at HEAD.

Maria Sharapova Wimbledon 2010 Leaving behind what was once called a lifetime deal with Prince, Maria Sharapova has joined the HEAD team — tennis racquets only. She remains cozy and content with her Nike apparel deal. This is a big win for HEAD as Sharapova is a marquee super player who has huge marketing power despite her recent downs and ups in the game.

“We are proud to have Maria on board with so many other great tennis athletes like Novak [Djokovic], Andy [Murray] and Robin [Söderling]. She definitely helps us build a much stronger women’s team together with Victoria Azarenka and Svetlana Kuznetsova” said CEO of HEAD N.V., Johan Eliasch.

Sharapova can be seen playing with her prototype HEAD racquet with black and white cosmetic down in New Zealand at the ASB Classic. At this time, her new stick is only for her as she works with HEAD to develop a racquet that suits her performance needs. Look for the Sharapova-friendly HEAD racquet later in the year.

The partnership includes a high-performance tour racquet line, a range of junior and kid’s racquets, accessories, and tennis bags. Sharapova is expected to be closely involved in the development and design of these products, which will be launched in retail in fall of 2011.
