Kim Clijsters revisits the 80s with vintage tennis fashion at Roland Garros.
There is a reason why Kim Clijsters' on-court fashion at Roland Garros looks a bit 80's. It is inspired by a Monica Seles outfit Clijsters was given as a junior at that time. With it Fila introduces its second in a series of 100th anniversary commemorative tennis apparel worn exclusively by Kim. AO 2011 was the first. A special F-box and hang-tag mark the anniversary brand.
Kim's outfit blends old with new by integrating the latest in performance fabrics and cuts with nostalgic retro designs and colors. This fushia, purple, white and blue collection includes a crew-neck short sleeve top, skort, jacket and adjustable visor. I'll bet daughter Jada is happy about it too as I hear she LOVES pink.
Clijsters' monica vintage top $52 USD, jacket $65 and visor $22 include the signature spatter print design that decorated Clijsters' favorite childhood outfit. I remember it myself. Kind of a cool idea with all the vintage lovin' going on. Fila did a nice job making it work. Good thing Kim didn't revisit the big hair of the time as well.
Seriously though, I did get to check out this outfit and it's really nice performance stuff. The lined jacket has that kind of thin and shiny crinkle fabric (Taslon) that the 80's jackets had but it's a lot softer and not noisy at all (remember when you could hear people coming and going in that stuff?!). Fun collection of separates.
