Wilson tennis introduces new Steam and Juice racquets for 2012.

Are they legal? the campaign asks. Wilson tennis has just introduced its new Juice and Steam racquets and is using social media to launch them. Check out one of the Steam videos featuring Kei Nishikori and Petra Kvitova below::

The tongue-in-cheek campaign appears to be the focus of this launch (always fun watching pros goof around) but I'm most interested in what these new sticks are going to do for my game.

Wilson Steam tennis racquet

The Steam series includes the Steam Pro BLX, weighted and balanced for power and spin for use by more experienced players (used by Kei Nishikori), and the Steam 100 BLX, a lighter-weight, version of the same (used by Ernests Gulbis and Petra Kvitova).

Wilson Juice Pro BLX

The Juice series is available in Juice Pro BLX, offering what Wilson says is a modern feel for big hitting power and spin.  The Juice 100 BLX has Wilson’s Amplifeel grip system and is designed for a wide range of players of all levels and ages; the Juice 108 BLX, with a larger head size and lighter weight design, also features Amplifeel. This racquet is for someone who prefers a larger sweetspot. You can read more about each racquet here

Are you thinking what I am? It does appear that Wilson may have made some tweaks to the BLX with weight, head size and cosmetics, but not too much else appears to be going on in terms of  real new technology. BLX users, take a test drive and let us know what YOU think.

The Wilson Juice and Steam will be available at retail January 15.
