Nike at Australian Open 2014: Nadal, Federer and del Potro
The Nike men will wear shades of grey and red as they take to the iconic blue tennis courts of Melbourne Park and the Australian Open.
The reigning World No. 1 gets the boldest burst of color – blue stripe across the chest on the Premier Rafa Crew – of these three players in Nike’s roster. We welcome this detail especially since it goes along with the “Happy Slam” vibe of this tournament.
The Spaniard’s footwear is the all-new lightweight Nike Lunar Ballistec, one of the lightest and fastest tennis shoes Nike has ever made. In men's size 10, the shoe weighs just 13 ounces through the use of Nike Lunarlon, a proprietary technology that provides extra cushioning while keeping the shoe lightweight and responsive.
Roger Federer gets outfitted with Dri-FIT technology to help the Swiss with breathability and comfort on the court. His arsenal includes the Nike Premier RF Cover-Up, Nike Premier RF Polo, Nike Gladiator Premier 9-inch Shorts and the new Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour.
Note the knit panels on the side and back of the two-way zip-up jacket, which give Federer’s kit more personality. Same goes for the hint of red (collar) and black (sleeves) on his Premier RF Polo. It feels like the perfect outfit for the young, fashionable father of twins, who announced over the holidays that he and his wife, Mirka, are expecting their third child this year.
Per usual, great accessories (in coordinating colors) accompany these key pieces – wristbands, practice tees, hats, and bandanas are all new for Spring 2014. – Erwin Ong
