Tennis Identity

Hingis and Lisicki take Tonic tennis to the top.

Last summer I watched as Martina Hingis was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport. Not long after the former world number 1 joined the tour again.

According to the Hall of Fame, Hingis is not alone in her path after induction. John McEnroe and Martina Navratilova both rejoined the tour after their inductions.

I admit I was suspicious of Hingis' foray back to the competitive courts. She had a tennis fashion brand with Tonic that needed attention and she plugged it (including where to buy) in her Hall of Fame induction speech.

Heading back to competition allowed her the opportunity to wear her brand on fashion's biggest (in size) runway. Certainly it's all fair marketing; the question was, could she still win and get attention.

Well, I got my answer. Less than a year later, Martina Hingis and partner Sabine Lisicki (sponsored by Nike) won the women's doubles division at the Sony Open in Miami.

Congratulations ladies. You both looked fab and Martina, yup, she's still got it.
