Li Na retires. A look at her stand and style. #LoveLi

June 2011 Li Na

Today, after a 15 year career, two-time Grand Slam singles champion Li Na announced her retirement from pro tennis. A look here at her stand and style.

Nike's latest graphic sums up Li's career in a beautiful symbol of her strength (Li joined Nike's roster in 1997).

"Be the Bird that Sticks Out," pays tribute to Li through the icon of the phoenix spreading its wings. According to Chinese proverb, the bird that sticks out will be shot (kinda harsh, yah). Li defied and in turn inspired.Li_Na_Bird_bird by Nike

Li's on court style has always been a top and skort. Her's were colorful "work" clothes, changed only in color, neckline or hemline from tourney to tourney. Li wore what most women wear, separates. For this, we could always relate. Perhaps it was a culturally driven choice but Li's tennis fashions were never flashy or extravagent – the one below is possibly her most revealing.

Li Na's smile, wit, strength and spirit will be missed on the pro tour.
