Wilson Pro Staff RF97 tennis racquet review.
Thumbs up. Roger’s input seems to have made a difference in what is a long time favorite Wilson model. The new racquet, designed for the more advanced player with a fast, full swing, has a classic feel but larger 97” square head to accommodate the more open string pattern (16 x 19). The result? Your shots are given a bit more forgiveness than a standard string bed and more “spinability.”
Strung the RF97 weighs 12.6 ounces. It is constructed of braided graphite and kevlar. The stick offers nice touch, power and control over shots whether from the baseline or net. We felt that it was very maneuverable and balanced in the hands of a strong hitter.
Noteworthy: Roger’s hybrid string, tension and overgrip selections are listed on the racquet’s shaft. The premium leather grip – listed as what RF uses – is not on the demo we used and shot. See it on the racquet left. It does look cooler for sure, but we like a tackier grip.
Be sure to check out the other versions of the new ProStaff when looking into this new racquet. The Wilson Pro Staff LS, for example, has got the RF look but may be better for your level of play. It offers a little extra power and is less expensive than the RF model too.
