Interesting insight from Vika Azarenka in a June 12 article in The Player’s Tribune… In it, Azarenka, who is working her way back up in the WTA ranks after injury, reflects on a turning point in her career, a pick up game with Tony Parker and Boris (Bobo) Diaw of the San Antonio Spurs.

“One of the most important tennis matches I played last year wasn’t on television…It was at Roxbury Park in Beverly Hills on a lazy afternoon in November. My opponent was my friend Tony Parker….” – V. Azarenka

It’s not often you get to see the human, more vulnerable side of a player of Azarenka’s caliber. Prompted by the eye-opening game Vika muses on tennis, basketball and life. Good stuff

“I have been traveling all over the world by myself since I was 10 years old. That ‘lone wolf’ mentality becomes a part of you whether you’re conscious of it or not.” – V. Azarenka
