Sliding on hard courts just got easier.
[social_warfare]Wilson tennis has unveiled the Glide, the biggest innovation in tennis shoes in years. Sliding is a big part of today’s super physical tennis game; problem is it’s tough to do without wrecking your knees on rubberized courts.
The innovation is sure to change hard court shoes forever. The developers, whose presentation I watched today, demonstrated how the inset “glide plates” increase a player’s response time by 30% when chasing down balls from side to side.
I watched two top rated juniors demonstrate a few drills (see below) that will get players used to the shoes. They then launched into running sliding and hitting. Impressive.
Watch for the Glide in a variety of dynamic color-ways for men and women. It is currently available to players at select tennis academies in France, Japan and the US. Wilson will also sell the Glide at its US Open store on the Open Grounds. The shoe will be available worldwide in March 2016 and will be priced at $200 USD.
