NYFW show features Serena’s fashions and Drake.

Serena Williams did a quick about face after her semi-finals loss at the US Open and went to do what she likes to do best, win. This win was on a different runway, a much lauded NYFW fashion show Tuesday featuring her Serena Williams Signature Statement line for HSN.

Ana Wintour, André Leon Talley and a host of fashion mavens attended the show in support of Ms. Williams. Most noted was boyfriend Drake who sat in the front row next to Ana and offered a big hug after the show. The music? Drake’s (natch).

Can’t say he’s as excited about fashion as he is tennis.

Here’s the full show:

Serena featured lots of beautiful, muted fall colors with a distinctly modernized 70s vibe. Interesting that she selected such thin models. The industry can’t seem to move beyond that default. Fringe was on everything- including Serena AND the audience. Animal prints, a fav of Serena’s, had their moment as well.

“I wanted to showcase a lot of fringe,” said Williams, following the runway show at Kia Style360.  “With our collection, a lot is available now. We had to think, ‘What’s also in style? And what is trending that people want to wear?’ Fringe is such a huge trend that we thought we could have a lot of fun with it.” – Serena Williams in WWD

Will this trend see its way onto tennis apparel? The new year will tell. My bet is yes but in much lighter handed doses.

Serena also noted that she is working on a collection that will be available in stores. Right now her HSN line is only available via

It sounds like Serena may also be reconsidering the Asian swing.

For now, Williams just wants to take it easy. “I want to go home and lay down,” said Williams. She said the tennis season isn’t over yet and she has three tournaments coming up. “I’m deciding what to do. They’re all in Asia. I had a long year.” – WWD
