Adidas scales the Great Wall

Share

Throughout the year, adidas has released special edition Barricade models to celebrate the shoe’s 15th anniversary; all have a wall theme. February brought us the Saksaywaman, April saw the release of the Berlin Wall, August featured the Wolf of Wall Street, and now – in time with the Asian Swing – we have The Great Wall of China. And it’s quite green.

Of the four they’ve released, I’ll go with the Saksaywaman was my favorite color scheme. I’m normally fairly conservative when it comes to tennis footwear (except for my Agassi phase way back. Those are the Air Zoom Pounce; ugly but with a fantastic fit) but the Saksaywaman appeals to me. This one just has…too much green for me.

Karin’s take: I really like all the symbolic detailing here, the wall element on the tongue, Chinese lettering on the heel. touches of red (good luck in China) and celebratory firework affect. I’d like to see the shoe with grey shorts and a black top or white top and bottom.  I also happen to LOVE limited edition shoes and am thrilled tennis is getting into them.

  1. I have to agree with Brinke on Saksaywaman. That’s also my favorite commemorative Adidas shoes so far that I have seen this year. I would really like to get a pair of that shoes!

The Great wall shoes could have been better if it was red/grey predominant color scheme. 🙂
