Raonic trades forehand for jump shot
Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic will try his hand at a different sport tonight at the Ricoh Coliseum Toronto for the 2016 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game. (Genie Bouchard will also be there.) You can watch it at 7pm ET on ESPN in the United States. Since his normal New Balance shoes don’t have the design needed for serious hoops, NB came up with this one-off design he’ll wear this evening.
The shoe won’t be available to the public- this one is just for Raonic:
“It’s very special and meaningful to me,” Milos said this week. “To take a current tennis shoe and make it a hybrid premium shoe is very innovative.”
The shoe features a mid-cut silhouette, bright cherry base and translucent iced outsole with a crackle back print. The heel pays homage to his roots, featuring a Canadian Maple Leaf graphic and the number 94, which represents the year his family immigrated to Canada.
“The most special thing to me is the personal touch of the Maple Leaf on the back and the number 94, representing the year my family and I immigrated to Canada. I wouldn’t be where I am today if my parents didn’t make that move, and I definitely wouldn’t be playing as part of this weekend.” – Milos Raonic.
