Tennis Identity

Team ASICS at the French Open

In case you had not noticed, ASICS is exploding in tennis. I noticed at Indian Wells (or was it Miami) that a ton of pros seem to be wearing ASICS clothing and footwear allofasudden. I’ve also noticed that ASICS seems to have a split personality. I’ll explain in a sec.

First, let’s see what the women have in store. This is Julia Goerges, wearing the Athlete Tank Top, Athlete Styled Skort, and GEL-Solution Speed 3 shoe. Good clean athletic basics that will work for every day.

And Sam Stosur, with the Club Dress and GEL-Resolution 6 shoe. Sam likes an athletic, unfussy silhouette for tournaments. More Women’s ASICS apparel here, with shoes here.

For the men…..there’s Gaël Monfils. He plays at one speed: Loud. (Wait- was that an Agassi Rock & Roll Tennis slug line from back in the day?) Either way- his flashy attire is a perfect match (“match parfait”) for his flashy style of play. The word conservative, in any language, is not in his playbook. Again- nothing wrong with that if you’ve got the game to back it up.

Monfils is wearing the Athlete Short, the Athlete SS Top, (however it’s supposed to be the polo version,) and the GEL-Resolution 6 shoe. More Men’s ASICS apparel here, with shoes here.

ZoomZoom, no? (Update: No. He has pulled out of the event due to illness.)

You see what I mean by the split personality? Perhaps as this supremely  comfortable line  (one of the best tennis fabrics around in Karin’s opinion) grows on court women will get some “jazz” as well.
