One year ago, we reported on Tennis Resorts Online’s “Top 100 Tennis Resorts and Camps Rankings for 2015.” We’re back with this year’s edition, and it’s pretty much status quo- Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina (led by pro Roy Barth) has earned the No. 1 ranking for the 9th time in the past 11 years.

The results are compiled from evaluations submitted by tennis vacationers themselves. Avid players- they average more than 100 days per year on court— and frequent travelers, these reviewers not only have first-hand experience of the resorts and camps they rate, but also possess a highly refined sense of what makes a tennis resort or camp great. It is their collective wisdom and judgment that underpin these Top 100 rankings and thus assure their credibility.

This year they were asked to rate their experiences in each of 20 categories. Those include the overall tennis experience, the quality of the teaching staff and instruction, the dedication to game arranging, the allure of the tennis complex itself, and caliber of its pro shop. However, because a tennis holiday consists of more than what happens on court, they were also invited to share their opinions about a wide variety of amenities and services, including lodging, cuisine, value-for-dollar, children’s programs, spa and fitness options, and other recreation.

*We also wanted to include the Waterville Valley Tennis Center in Waterville Valley, NH- a plug for Karin’s part of the country. WVTC received a Gold Medal Resort ranking, with a ranking of #22 in the world. In addition, it was recognized in the poll as #2 for Best Value for the Dollar and #5 for Best Setting. (Tennis in the fall in New Hampshire. Yes, that might be nice.)

Waterville Valley Tennis Center

The Waterville Valley Tennis Center was one of only two New England tennis centers to be a Gold Medal Resort, and one of only two New England tennis resorts recognized in the individual categories, with two. It opens in mid-May and continues through Columbus Day Weekend. A variety of clinics, lessons, round robins, kid’s programs, racquet stringing, tournaments and pro shop apparel are available.

Over on the camp side, The Roy Emerson Tennis Weeks camp (below*) in Switzerland also retains its top spot.
