Tennis fashion flash | Spotlight on Chrissie by Tail
This week I’m taking you back just a couple of months to the New York Athletic Club in New York City as the 2016 U.S. Open was getting started. Set inside the tony club, Chris Evert talked about her tennis fashion collection and offered a sneak peek at some of the tennis and fitness fashions she has coming up for Spring 2017. Chrissie by Tail is our pick for this week’s “Tennis fashion flash”, a series looking at smaller brands making apparel for the courts.
Subtleties like feminine pleats, insets, lace and trimmings are what make Chrissie’s collections so special and what make them so unique. “I really love the fabrics”, said Evert to me. “The materials are yummy and comfortable”. Noteworthy is how the fabrics skim the body. “The fit is beautiful and not just on an 18 year old model.” Chrissie has worked hard to make her line look fun and youthful but work well on an older player’s body as well.
We kicked off the event with a champagne toast.
First up, Chrissie’s Antigua collection which will hit retail in January 2017. The marble print is artsy and modern. My favs in this blue, white and black group are the Jenny Top (middle top -take my word for it, the back is great) and ethereal Evelyn pleated skort (skort on far right).
Next, Chrissie’s first floral collection, Dahlia which will be out March 2017. My favorites are far left in both images – the Ana dress and Adriana top and Joan Skort, and ok yes, the leggings.
Chrissie also gave a little talk (sorry about the quality of the video) about the roots of her collection.
Below, Chrissie with Maria Sanchez, who wears Chrissie by Tail on court.
I loved meeting Chris McKendry as well!
Chris says she will be moving deeper into leisure wear in the coming seasons, which will take her apparel to lunch, shop or wherever the day takes you before or after your game.
