New Fila fashions for the Australian Open
Following Nike’s reveal yesterday, now we get a chance to see what the Fila pros will be wearing on the steamy courts of Melbourne. And I have to say they’ve got some terrific designs here. Let’s take a look. These aren’t showing up just yet at retail, but it shouldn’t be long. We’ll let you know.
As a Borg fan from way back, I totally love the windowpane polo shirt here. Just, wow. Sorry if I sound like a fanboy with that one. The Heritage range for women and men features a simple, clean color palette, and a variety of timeless designs. FILA pays homage to its original Italian aesthetic, returning to authentic details from 1970’s FILA tennis.
The brand’s signature navy, white and red hues combined with details like windowpane jacquard patterns and knit collars, creates a decidedly modern collection, while still staying true to FILA’s roots. The Australian Open marks the debut of the Heritage range. FILA athletes including Karolina Pliskova, Jelena Jankovic, John Isner, Marin Cilic, Sam Querrey, and Andreas Seppi will wear the designs on-court during the season’s first Grand Slam.
On the men’s side, the Heritage range consists of four tops, including two crew neck shirts and two polo shirts. Pieces are offered in both solid and windowpane designs, in keeping with the brand’s signature red, white and navy color scheme. To coordinate back to the tops, the Heritage shorts are also offered in solid hues and windowpane patterns. The windowpane bottoms features an elastic waistband with signature stripe. The Heritage Jacket and Heritage Pant round out the collection. All items featured the embroidered F-Box logo.
The women’s Heritage range features three silhouettes of tops, including a racerback tank, full coverage tank and cap sleeve top. The collection’s navy/white/Chinese red palette is decorated with contrast color sleeves and stripes and finished off with the embroidered F-Box patch logo.
The Heritage skort and Heritage pleated skort were designed to pair back to each of the tops. The collection’s highlight is the Heritage Polo Dress, offering an updated twist on a classic design for a simple yet strong statement. The Heritage Jacket and Heritage Pant complete the line.
Women’s “Sleek Streak” and Men’s “Zephyr”
Designed for the urban-chic player, Fila women’s Sleek Streak collection strikes a balance of spicy 70’s style and futuristic finishes. Details like a noveaux tie-dye print, color blocking, and glimmer-sheen finishes come together to create a mix of statement pieces and everyday staples. FILA sponsored athletes including Yaroslava Shvedova, Irina Begu and Timea Babos will hit the court in this collection in Melbourne.
The Sleek Streak line is designed in a black/white/ruby rose colorway, featuring show-stopping catwalk cutlines. The collection consists of five different silhouettes of tops, including a racerback tank, halter tank, full coverage tank, short sleeve top, and long sleeve top. Items feature contrast blocks of color, a sleek multi print, and the silver cut-out F-Box logo. The Sleek Streak range offers three skort styles to tie back to the tops, detailed with slits, pleats, and pops of the multi print. The skorts, offered in 13 ½ and 14 ½ center back length, each include COOLMAX® CORE technology in the crotch lining, as well as the silver cut-out F-Box logo.
The collection also boasts two dress styles: the Sleek Dress and Sleek Printed Dress. The Sleek Dress includes a pleated panel on the bottom half (really unique), open hole back, 31 ½” back body length, and the silver cut out F-Box logo. The Sleek Printed dress is boldly designed with a multi print, 31 ½” back body length, and the silver cut out F-Box logo. The Sleek Jacket and Sleek Pant, in black and ruby rose hues, round out the collection.
For guys, the best of FILA’s 1980’s street fashion meets high-performance function in the breakthrough Zephyr collection. Bold players will be drawn to its bright pop-art inspired schemes complete with brush stroke patterns, oversized logos, and inner contrast taping. Pinhole mesh and moisture-wicking technology works to keep you ventilated and cool, while stretch fabric and ergonomic cutlines maximize the way you move. The collection’s 80’s blue/black/white/zephyr orange hues will make a memorable on-court impression. FILA athletes such as Janko Tipsarevic will wear the Zephyr collection on-court in Melbourne.
The Zephyr collection’s four tops include two crewneck styles and two polo shirts. Pieces are embellished with pops of contrasting color or printed panels and piping. The shirts pair back to the Zephyr short, offered in black or white, each with printed inserts. The Zephyr Quarter Zip Top is a standout style thanks to its vibrant 80’s blue/black/blazing yellow colorway. To complete the collection is the Zephyr pant, in black with 80’s blue and blazing yellow accents.
