Introducing Fila’s Legend Collection | Tennis Apparel For Men
We’ve got a preview of what Fila men will be wearing at the French Open 2017. This season’s Fila Legend Collection was inspired by Pierluigi Rolando, a true visionary and the brand’s first Creative Director. Rolando introduced bold colors to the court in the early 1970s, greatly impacting the tennis fashion game. (Remember the truly iconic pinstripe look of Borg? That’s Mr. Rolando, designer of Fila’s epic “White Line” for tennis. Older shirts will have “White Line Fila” on the shirt tag. There was also “Aqua Time” for swimming, and “White Rock” for climbing. But we digress.)
To this day, sketches by Rolando are hanging in the Fila Museum in Biella, Italy, and they serve as a continuous source of inspiration for the brand.
Borrowing Rolando’s chromatic sportswear scheme, the collection presents a mix of color blocking, heather-effect prints, classic stripes, and textures that are clean and on trend for today’s breakout player.
Overall, a nice clean look, although I’m a bit more partial to their Heritage line, a throwback to the Borg heyday.
(Note: that racquet the player is holding is merely for show, as Fila doesn’t make racquets. But they used to, and they were great.)
