Adidas & Pharrell Williams Release New Tennis Hu Collaboration
Adidas has released two new casual sneaker designs that pay homage to some of their best-selling sneakers from back in the day, including one that still sells like gangbusters. These are called the “Tennis Hu,” short for “human,” and is a signature shoe for Pharrell Williams, the noted musician. This first pair is white with green trim, in tribute to the classic Stan Smith model.
The Tennis Hu is a breathable summer model, and the shoes’ white upper is constructed using flexible Primeknit. The lacing system is built into the shoe’s body and the tongue features a suede tab with the adidas Originals logo. The model with yellow lacing, (which is not shown on the adidas promo photo) yellow sole, and golden heel tab point back to the adidas Forest Hills. Make no mistake, these are casual shoes for hanging out- it’s doubtful they would take the pounding of a hard court.
Williams is a songwriter, a storyteller, so expect each forthcoming edition of the Tennis Hu to be accompanied by a strong narrative. The Hu line was launched last year with Pharrell’s simple statement “I play for the human race”. Fair enough.
This year, Pharrell will use his experiences from traveling to all corners of the world as a source of inspiration behind the upcoming colorways.
These shoes look incredibly comfortable. The only downside? Now I’ve got this doggone song stuck in my head (again) and it’ll be there all day. Because I’m happeeeeeee….
