Missing Roger Federer At The French? Here’s How To Go “Full Fed”

GOATWe’re cruising towards the finish line at Roland Garros. The usual suspects lurk in the men’s semifinals: Nadal, check. Stan, check. Murray, check. And let’s add Dominic Thiem, who totally dismantled Novak Djokovic to get there. There’s one familiar face missing on the men’s side, and we all know who it is.

Roger Federer decided to skip the entire clay season in order to get ready for his two main targets, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. He has come to the determination that you can’t have it all at this stage of a career- you have to pick and choose. Rafa Nadal, with his punishing all-out-assault-on-every-single-point style, will learn this soon enough, if he hasn’t already. He’s battled back from a few injury-plagued seasons, and has to see the writing on the wall: he’ll need to go into Federer Self Preservation Mode sooner or later. Is good for career, no?

Maybe we’ll see more of this, where the biggest names become hyper-selective about where they’re going to play. Before it would’ve been unheard of for a totally healthy player (Federer) to skip a Slam. (OK, back in the day, guys would blow off the Australian Open because it was so far away, right after Christmas, and the event hadn’t been built up to what it is now. I mean, Borg himself only played the AO once. For sure, a long way to travel.)

Let’s face it, if we want more Fed, then we’re going to have to take it in measured portions, as opposed to the full season approach. Some Fed is better than no Fed. That said, this is what the GOAT would’ve styled at the French (Nike was prepared for the guy). No clay splatter for him, just understated cool. As it should be. Just a thought for Nike- how about a white polo with green pinstripes for Wimbledon in 2018, since 2017 is already bagged, tagged, and ready to launch? OK, enough daydreaming.

Here’s how to go Full Fed.
