Caroline Wozniacki Beats Venus Williams To Win The 2017 WTA Finals

Caroline Wozniacki capped a fantastic 2017 season with a 6-4 6-4 win over Venus Williams to win the season-ending WTA Finals in Singapore. She blitzed Elina Svitolina 6-2, 6-0 and Simona Halep 6-0, 6-2 (nice reversal on the scores there), lost to Caroline Garcia, then defeated Karolina Pliskova 7-6(9) 6-3 to reach the final of the round-robin event.

Woz was in eight finals this year, winning two titles (Toray Pan Pacific being the other). She’s projected to end the year at #3, and she’s the season leader in match wins with 60 and Top 10 wins with 13. Caroline had never beat Venus, losing seven straight matches- but not today. On the WTAFinals.com site she said, “Eight is my lucky number! I was hoping that if I’m going to beat her, at least once in my career, it has to be today. I just went out there and I just did my best.”

  1. Magnificent play for Caro! She was on fire! I think she can be a very good contender for Australian Open next year. I wish her luck!
