Haas, the 12th seed at the 2014 Australian Open, made his Ellesse debut a short one, retiring from his first-round match against Guillermo Garcia Lopez with a shoulder injury. Before signing with Ellesse, Haas had also been a face for tennis apparel brands like K-Swiss and Solfire.
“I love the tennis history that is associated with ellesse and it’s amazing to be following in the footsteps of some of the Grand Slam greats” said Svitolina. “Their clothes are stylish and contemporary and I can’t wait to wear my new kit on the court”.
At the Australian Open, the 47th-ranked WTA player took down two-time Grand Slam champion and 19th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the first round.
In 2011, Ellesse officially re-launched in the United States with a party at New York’s Town Tennis Club hosted by Chris Evert. That initiative does not appear to have grown legs as the items Haas and Svitolina are wearing are not available for sale in the United States. --Erwin Ong
