The end of the year means that the awards and plaudits for a job well done begin to roll in, so let's back the truck up for Novak Djokovic. USA TODAY Sports and Tennis Channel partnered to pick the best player and match of the 2014 men's and women's seasons. No surprise here: Novak Djokovic was voted "Player of the Year" and his Wimbledon five-set final battle against Roger Federer earned the title "Match of the Year."
Hall of Famers Jim Courier and Martina Navratilova and USA Today Sports tennis writer Doug Robson were the judges, and were asked to choose their top three players and matches before coming to a conclusion.
Courier said, "Novak gets the nod for player of the year by winning Wimbledon and then finishing the year No. 1 buoyed by a dominant performance in the fall season. He was incredibly consistent, posting a 61-8 record on the year and winning seven titles."
This is most likely not the last award for 2014 he'll pick up, either!
