Simona Halep Confirms New Deal With Nike

Updated 02/14: On her various social media platforms, Simona Halep has officially announced her new deal with Nike:

A search of Nike’s corporate news site and social media accounts shows no announcement yet from the sportswear giant. According to multiple reports including this from The Business-Standard, “The deal between Nike and the former world No. 1, who competed in the Australian Open without a sponsor, is to be effective immediately. Halep is to receive nearly $2 million a year, some $800,000 more than her deal with German athletic brand adidas, from which she split after four years of collaboration, according to Romanian media.”

Here’s how she did in her first match with Nike, at Doha:

It will be interesting to see how Nike markets Halep, especially with the Slams where there are signature releases, such as the Sharapova dress or The Fed’s sneakers. Most of the Nike contingent wears whatever the brand has planned for the current season, but a select few (Rafa, Fed, Serena, Maria) wear their own special Nike duds. Will she be included in that rare company? We shall see.

When we spot something official from Nike, we’ll update this post. So long, little red dress. You had a great run.
