TI Week In Review: Federer Returns To #1, Kvitová Back To The Top Ten
Let’s recap the tournament news from the week. Roger Federer has returned to #1 in the world, and solidified his position by defeating Grigor Dimitrov 6-2 6-2 at the ABN AMRO World Tournament in Rotterdam. It’s definitely one of those weeks I will never forget in my life. It’s unbelievable to get my 97th title and get back to World No. 1. It’s very special. I was expecting it to be tough today. Grigor is a great player and a great athlete and he’s been playing super well in recent months. I thought that this wasn’t going to be the result, but he looked to be struggling a bit and I never looked back. I was able to execute my tennis the way I wanted to. I’m very happy.

In Doha Qatar, Petra Kvitová defeated Garbiñe Muguruza 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to win the final. This is her second straight title, and returns her to the WTA Top Ten. She’s run up 13 straight match wins, and this all the more amazing when you consider where she was this time a year ago, just beginning to recover from that terrible December 2016 knife attack.
Kvitova comes back from a set down for the 2nd straight night to tally her 2nd straight win over a Top 5 player and return to the Top 10 for the 1st time since 2016.
13 consecutive wins for Kvitova and she’s won back-to-back titles for the 1st time since 2011.
