Tie Break Tens Comes To NYC, March 5
Next week’s tennis calendar is crowded! Besides the events in the California desert, Tie Break Tens, the new short-form tennis competition, opens its inaugural United States tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Monday, March 5, featuring sisters Venus and Serena Williams. Tie Break Tens tournaments are held over one day and involve eight players competing in a knock-out format, with each match consisting of a super tie-break to ten points.
Following successful tournaments in London, Vienna, Madrid and Melbourne, the Tie Break Tens all-women event will feature top players competing for the $250,000 winner’s prize.
The lineup includes Serena and Venus Williams, Elina Svitolina, CoCo Vandeweghe, Daniela Hantuchová, Sorana Cirstea, Marion Bartoli and Shuai Zhang. (It will then be a fast cross-country flight to Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas Open for most if not all of them, which also starts the same day. We know Serena will be hosting the Desert Smash event on the 6th!)
I’m really excited to step back onto the court to join the action at Tie Break Tens. It’s a fast-paced tournament where anything can happen and I can’t wait to see who I will be drawn against. The crowds seem to love it and I know the fans at MSG will have a great. -Daniela Hantuchová
